This is one of the easiest projects with the COOLEST results! You can't mess this one up. My favorite part about these tie dye circles is how unique they are. No two circles are the same. The picture above is from one of my Kindergarten classes. We had so much fun making these and watching the colors blend together that I just had to share it on the blog! Let's get started! Here's what you'll need for this project:
Step 1: Smooth out your coffee filter to flatten it. This will help you fold it into fourths. When you fold something into fourths, that means it will have 4 parts like the picture below. Step 2: To fold your coffee filter into fourths, fold it in half (like a taco) and then fold it in half again (like a Dorito). Step 3: After you have folded your coffee filter into fourths, color on ONE side using Crayola Washable Markers. You can make designs on your coffee filter using lines and shapes. The more colors, patterns, and designs you use, the better it will look! You can leave a little bit of white space like I did, but you still need a lot of color. Step 4: Spray your coffee filter with water or press a damp sponge on your design to make it wet. If you have to use a sponge, don't rub your design, just keep pressing until everything is wet. Make sure it is saturated (really wet) so the colors will soak through to the bottom layer. This is a really fun part because you get to watch the colors blend together. It will be tempting to unfold your coffee filter, but keep it folded until it dries completely! Step 5: After your coffee filter has completely dried, you can unfold it to see your tie dye creation! Your tie dye will have something called a radial design which means your colors and designs will be the same around the circle starting from the middle. Notice how I have pink in the middle and blue around the edge of my circle. Each "fourth" is the same, but when you put them together, it makes a full design! After you finish your first circle, see what other ideas you can come up with to make the next one different! Experiment with your designs and colors to see what will happen. After you finish your tie dye designs, share a picture of them on social media using the hashtags #artwithmsjordan #becreative or tag Ms. Jordan on instagram @artwithmsjordan
